What is authentically reported
The Prophet ﷺ taught that breaking the bone of a deceased person is like breaking it while alive. Scholars commonly cite this as strong evidence for the continuing sanctity and dignity of the deceased body.
What cannot be stated with certainty
This narration by itself does not establish that the deceased experiences physical pain exactly as a living person does. Matters of the Barzakh should be described only to the extent supported by reliable revelation.
Practical consequence
The deceased should be handled gently and respectfully during Ghusl, Kafan, transport and burial, and unnecessary harm should be avoided.
