Tawbah – Sincere Repentance in Islam

Tawbah is more than words: it includes remorse, leaving the sin and a sincere resolve to improve.

Foundations of Tawbah

Sincere repentance includes abandoning the sin, regretting it and resolving not to return. If the rights of other people were violated, those rights should be restored or addressed where possible.

Prayer of repentance

Hadith collections mention a prayer after committing a sin: the Muslim purifies himself, prays and seeks Allah’s forgiveness. It supports Tawbah but does not replace its essential conditions.

Hope, not despair

A Muslim should not despair of Allah’s mercy. Sincere repentance remains one of the central paths back to Allah.
